I have found that the only thing religious about political conservatives is their preservation of barbaric practices in the Old Testament: Religious ignoramuses in Old Testament days were noted for killing, dragging and hanging non-conformists in public places or for completely annihilating the male offspring of those whom they had labeled their enemies to allegedly "put the fear of God" in folks.
"... Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were rearing them. 7 So it was, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons and slaughtered seventy persons, put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel." - 2 Kings 10:6
