Fox News Contributor Compares Coronavirus to the Flu, Claims It’s ‘Not a Pandemic’

Justin Baragona

The Daily BeastApril 13, 2020, 11:19 AM EDT

Fox News contributor Bill Bennett insisted on Monday morning that the novel coronavirus that has killed over 22,000 Americans in roughly a month isn’t a pandemic at all, instead comparing it to the seasonal flu.

Appearing on Fox & Friends, Bennett—who previously served as education secretary under President Ronald Reagan—argued that the threat of COVID-19 has long been overstated and that strict social-distancing guidelines have been unnecessary.

Now watch as every pathetic left wing hypocritical gasbag loser ignore all of this.

This thing survives on paper for hours and remains infectious....no other virus can do that....it lingers in the air for hours.....its lives on metal and glass for days...I don't think we have ever seen a virus like this....its like a super corona virus....so we can argue whether this was all necessary but to try and call it a seasonal flu is wrong IMO....
Bennett seems to be behind the curve on this one...maybe he is trying to set the stage for a campaign against Trump's efforts...he is no fan of Trump...

22,000 to 54,000 people have died in the USA from this years seasonal flu...why there is such a gap is due to people dying from heart attacks and other ailments but are listed as flu casualties because that is what caused the downturn in their health and hospitalized them.....Corona has killed 20,000 in two months....stretch that out to a year and you get over 100,000 American deaths from corona....who knows how many dead we would have if social distancing was not requested....its twice as deadly as the flu Mr. Bennett....

But the OP is right...the MSM is going to bash him and shove this in a closet until they can figure out how to use it against Trump....

It is much more contagious than the seasonal flu.

I don't think covid-19 is more contagious than the flu. Over the past few years studies have shown that the flu is also transmitted by coming into contact with surfaces that an infected person has touched. Also the flu can be transmitted by people who have not shown any symptoms of sickness. What recent studies have also found is that the flu is most often transmitted from a sick person's breathing and less often by coughs and sneezes.

"Just breathing out — without coughing or sneezing — is enough for a person with the flu to spread the virus, according to new research led by the University of Maryland in College Park."
'Just breathing' is enough to spread flu

What is different is that the Covid-19 virus has a slightly longer incubation period during which it can be transmitted.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during the 2017-2018 flu season in the US (not the world - only US) there were:

  • 48.8 million illnesses (Americans that had the flu)
  • 959,000 hospitalizations (for the flu)
  • more than 80,000 deaths (as a result of the flu) due to complications including pneumonia.
That is just one of many bad flu seasons in the US and remember that we HAVE treatments and vaccines to fight the flu. We don't yet have treatments and vaccines to fight Covid-19 but they are coming.
