If the government is going to continue saying that social security payments to retirees will go defunct in the next ten to fifteen years. A promise they made to the American people for their old age, and that's all a lot of these people have. Then why should the American people support paying taxes for anything other than national defense and social security. The American people have no reason to honor any agreement made by Congress, written or otherwise, if they're going to fail on their promises. Therefore all that foreign aid, subsidies to businesses, funding for NGOs, and other stuff; and most especially those retirement contracts for bureaucrats and congressmen are just worthless pieces of paper that are best used hanging in the outhouse.

Like the food pyramid Congress best take care of that tax pyramid's base; namely those who have paid into social security all their lives, national defense, and their veterans; before they worry about any of their other stuff or it's going to all fall down.

PS: At least I'll have a good use for those pieces of legislation and retirement contracts if they're hanging in the outhouse.

Be happy and work for Elon Musk until you keel over and die.

I suspect the blue cities are gonna get quite sporty as their black leaders scramble for the reduced grift money.

Whoo! I'd hate to be a taxpayer in those areas.

First, at some point, absent congressional action to address the looming shortfall in revenue coming in vs benefits going out, the SSA will have to reduce benefits down to 70% or so of what they were. The Fund won't go defunct, but at 70% or thereabouts the SSA recipients will in too many cases be seriously and negatively impacted. Since those affected are also a good chunk of the electorate, one might expect the Congress and the President will have to take corrective action. I cannot conceive otherwise, the political pain would be enormous IMHO.

How they do it is a different discussion, what will the political climate be at that point? Will we still be increasing the national debt at ridiculous amounts, or will fiscal sanity finally arrive. As far as funding cuts go, sadly I don't see much appetite for that any time soon. Although it appears that Trump and Musk are determined to cut some fat here and there. But they seem to also be determined to cut taxes, so will the result be less revenue but also less spending? I guess we'll find out.

We can cut the fat and only honor our obligations to national defense and the promise from congress to the American people to provide social security to the old.

Anything else is fat... most especially retirement papers for congress and the bureaucrats.

So you're saying there is nothing in the Constitution that says we have to pay taxes.

Sucks to be you, especially if you're working for USAID or any other bureaucratic agency.

I am saying your demand is stupid. You don't the Constitution at all.

I know the founding fathers put nothing in the Constitution about taxes.

No taxation without representation!!! The government needs to honor its promises to ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. That means they took money from the people for social security then raided the fund which should have been raking in at least 5% interest over all these years.

Those social security payments better be made without haggling or they can just assume all other funding will be cut.

The government needs to honor its commitments to national defense and making sure social security is there for the old. Don't even talk about haggling down social security for those retiring. Anything else anything else in the budget like USAID, subsidies for various industries, bailouts, and most especially those retirement papers for bureaucrats and congress, are fat to be cut.

Want to negotiate? Congress needs to cut the fat first and honor their commitments to national defense, their veterans, and social security to the American retirees.

PS: Social security needs a hefty increase due to the inflation. Those golden parachute health care deals for congress and bureaucrats can go away and they can take a number and be told they make too much. Perhaps they all need to be placed on the same pay scale as the military and have their retirement be half of their "base pay" too.

Social Security--biggest pyramid scheme in history.

Only if the people who have paid into it in good faith all these years don't stand up and demand their congressmen honor it by ensuring funds are available.

Otherwise there's no reason to honor those retirement contracts to congressmen and bureaucrats.

Yeah. Supporting all those Welfare Checks must be a bear.

If Elon cuts 600 billion dollars from the budget and only 10% of that, 60 billion dollars, were given as an increase to the 50 million retirees on social security the retirees would see a $100 increase in their social security payments every month.

Keep cutting the waste, fraud, and abuse, DOGE!
