Ukraine wanted to join the EU. This would put an end to Russian appointed Judges and prosecutors... It would stop the Russian Oligarchs power of buying off their justice system.

Ukraine know they are not considered equals to Russian by Russians. Ukrainians wanted equality, remove corruption and live free...

Putin found that ideology a massive threat to his power... If Russians saw a country not only break free but thrive with in the EU it would be the start of the end for him... Why would want a corrupt leader like Putin who has sold all your state assets to his buddies while you starve when Ukraine shows the easy path forward..

It’s none of our criminal government’s business what goes on there. Had it not intervened, there would be no war.

After decades of foreign interventions and war causing nothing but death, destruction, and debt all Americans should be demanding a non-interventionist foreign policy.

Putin is cold hearted. He does not care about the lives of his citizens if they can be used to increase his power. A country of 146 million people does not drastically reduce it's power base by the loss of a miiliion or more citizens.
Look how Putins standing internationally has improved. China, India, Iran, North Korea are forming an alliance they did not have before. The way Putin is playing Trump increases his standing with the US's enemies.

They have 70 million plus male potential soldiers. Through the first year plus, the Russians were concerned with the depletion of their arms. They have gone into a war economy where they have increased arms prduction. They have leading edge arms production capability. The war has resulted in Russia being more prepared for war, now, than they were before the war.

How did FDR's "summit meeting" go with Stalin? His infirmity and seemly lack of interest in world events led to the situation Russia is in today. Things didn't work out for Trump who is used to dealing with honorable people so the agenda has changed and Trump is urging NATO to get off their asses and support Ukraine.
