I really hope they don't. Not because he hasn't done things worthy of impeachment. But because Senate R's will never vote to convict. It would give him an opportunity to once again play the victim card.

Better to concentrate on conducting hearings, subpoenaing witnesses, blocking everything he wants to do for the last two years, and reversing everything possible that he's done.

The building is already torn down, so there is nothing left to preserve. So, stopping ballroom construction doesn't have one damn thing to do with "historical preservation". If you wanted to preserve history you should have done so before it was torn down. What do you propose we do with the area that was torn down? Just leave a hole in the ground to preserve the history of the hole?

It was a dilapidated structure that had basically been relegated to the status of museum.

The battleship Massachusetts is also historical and makes a fine museum but it is no longer a significant contribution to the navel assets of America.

The East Wing and it's underground structure we're basically obsolete and desperately needed upgrades. As time goes on I'm seeing that the major upgrade required was actually the emergency bunker located beneath the east wing. Perhaps it was the required dimensions of the upgraded emergency bunker that dictated the scale of the above ground structure that would be over it. Either way this is a positive construction effort... Even better that it's privately funded.

All I needed to hear even once was that there were several times recently that foreign dignitaries who gathered at the White House actually had to use porta potties...

Whether or not the story is true I don't know but if it's even remotely true there should be no objections to constructing an adequate gathering place for international politics in DC.

It wasn't much of anything. More or less like a forgotten closet... It was structurally deficient.

The long overdue modernization of the presidential doomsday bunker underneath obviously required a much larger footprint than the insufficient and outdated complex that was there beneath.
