i mentioned to my nurse that i saw this tv urologist say 85% cure rate for bladder cancer now.....it went against everything i had read...she made that little face nurses make when they are not gonna go there....so never one to let it go....i ask my urologist...he looked a bit concerned and left the room for a few minutes to do the check out sheet etc...then he came back and got all serious and said...lets discuss the word cured...he assured me ....i am doing well.....9 months of no new tumors.....he said i was not cured....that as long as i kept up with my scopes and allowed him to put a stop to anything happening we were good....i was not cured...he went into the importance of not thinking 3 scopes was cured...he would not use the word remission or anything...just said we needed to keep on doing what was working....the scopes and then said he wanted a round of chemo...a precaution seen more as a preventive round....for the first time he said i could actually do it later in january so as to not have to do it during the holidays....i opted to go ahead and get it over with....i dont see much difference in doing it now and putting it off and having it hanging over my head....he discussed jimmy carter and the cured word used there....he went into not many of his patients are chronic pot users....i started laughing that he used the word chronic...so far he can only find two papers on it and they dont really say one way or the other....he use to advocate cutting back .....note the past tense there...

i hear diabetics use the word 'cured'.....with my damn 5.3 a1c (did i mention that) i can call myself 'cured' that is normal and most of you would have higher scores.....sure i am cured till i eat a biscuit ....there is no 'cure' for this just a lot of control and hard work...

when are you really cured of anything? how can they declare jimmy carter cured....it just has not been long enough...look at polio...they used the word cured there...till they found out it comes back in many adults...nice kick in the ass there....

cured is over used

you can cure a cold, cure achne, cure the hiccups

but things like cancer, there's no cure, you can be in remission, in good shape, have a long shot of it coming back

but cured? no

not unless something is removed, like an organ

Like when I got cured of my appendicitis. It was a fatal illness w/o surgery, so I had an appendectomy, and low, I was cured.
