Lets cover 1.2% of the Sahara desert with solar panels and we could balance it out with a huge offshore wind farm over the Pacific and Atlantic.

We have many decades with hundreds of billions of dollars if not trillions spent on research on solar panel technologies. It should be much better in efficiency and survivability and environmentally. A few decades ago, when the roof shingles that were also of solar panel technology turned out to be bullshit, I started to lose belief and started to think scams to enrich the corrupted. The structures on individual homes roofs are still somewhat ungainly and not cosmetically compatible.

The entire “green” movement including climate change is a grift.

Give us money and we will stop the planet from changing.

BULLSHIT.

Well unfortunately, every aspect of this plan is bad.
solartemprange.png

So the first problem is that over 25°C which is about 77°F, solar panels tend to dramatically lose efficiency.

The Sahara desert easily reaches over 80°C on a daily basis, which means the solar panels there would lose between 15% and 25% of their energy production.

But the second problem is soiling. Soiling is dust and hot spots on the panel. Dust build up on the panels, which would be unavoidable in a desert, will cause degradation of the panel. The panels will need replaced much quicker than the normal 10 years.

Then you have transmission losses. Right now transmission losses are roughly 7%, and that's over a fairly short distance of 50 to 100 miles.
Now you want to transmit power over tens of thousands of miles.

And then the next problem is that one single dust storm would wipe out the entire power supply of the world, for months on end. And that assumes that we would only need to dig out the solar panels, and they would still work. If you are unaware, hot desert dust storms generate massive amounts of static electricity, and would likely damage not just supporting equipment, but possibly the solar panels themselves.

And of course, the last problem is, the land itself is over run and controlled by people who hate the west. If think they wouldn't destroy the solar power plants, or hold them for ransom, you are sadly mistaken.

Solar panels start losing efficiency above 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

China's solar prowess is staggering. With a whopping 430 GW solar capacity (As of April 2023), the country is the largest producer of solar energy in the world.Mar 14, 2024

thats because jessica or joe or whatever it is this week doesnt have an answer because someone else wrote the article....
You are probably right

Its just a cut and past with little or no thought behind it

anybody posting with an Elektra label is closer to the desert than others :)

Environmental Responsibility: As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, Saudi Arabia is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. Solar energy provides a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative, helping to meet these climate goals.

Milestones AchievedThe progress in Saudi Arabia's solar market has been noteworthy. The Sakaka Solar Plant, a 300 MW facility, was commissioned in 2019, representing a significant step towards the nation's renewable energy goals. This solar plant is part of a growing portfolio of projects that showcase Saudi Arabia's commitment to a sustainable energy future.Challenges and OpportunitiesWhile Saudi Arabia and the Middle East have made substantial strides in the solar market, challenges remain.

Solar panels are made from petroleum, how is that sustainable.

Solar only works during the day, sometimes, how does that give us the electricity we need to run industry.

Solar panels have a short life span and then require replacing, how is continuous use of the petroleum chemical industry sustainable?

Saudi Arabia has had whole villages off grid since the 1980s. There's also Farasan island. How short is the lifespan of solar panels?

Farasan island has a population of 20,000.

Saudi Arabia inaugurated its first solar power station on Sunday. It is located on Farasan Island and will produce 864,000 kilowatts.

The station, which contains 6,000 solar cells, was built by government-owned utility Saudi Electricity (SECO) and Showa Shell Sekiyu, a Japanese energy company partly owned by Saudi Arabian Oil.

Americans live in cities
Villages do not produce solar panels or have industry
We can not live on islands
Farasan Island is supported by ships and boats ran on oil.

How short is the lifespan of a Solar Panel, some do not last one year. Maximum results in Solar Panels lasting only a year.

Saudi Arabia's oil industry is not ran with solar energy.

Germans tried it... Invested over a billion... Sahara is too harsh for the present technology and Solar panels don't need to be in dessert to work well..

But what the Germans figured out was solar tech that can work in Northern Europe. This is what is been the focus for about 13 years... the technology on this is starting to settle and that will massively increase adoption. (until tech settles, customers won't invest as they know in 2 years time a better tech could be out which makes there purchase obsolete.)

But you are bang on about offshore wind... Massive investment in Europe, at the moment they are in shallow waters (anchored to bed), but there is a lot of work in R &D on floating farms...

German industry is setting records going bankrupt because electricity is scarce and expensive due to solar.

Germany discovered that solar is a failure in northern europe

It is one big lie. As soon as the dust covers those panels the energy output is degraded, and the more dust that gets on it, even more degradation happens. I know, because out in Californication near Fresno they have Solar Farms, which most of the time is caked with 3 inches of dust. Then around February, when the rain comes, the panels are clean for one month, then get all caked up again.

You can tell someone is buying stocks in the Green New Deal, because they are so giddy in wanting these boondoggles placed all over the world.
So explain how solar ROI typically takes between 8 and 12 years...

Solar is considered to be a good investment...

Wind is the big boy at t the moment... In Europe they had to create a speciql tax for wind farms because they were making so much money due to Ukraine,,

Sorry man, this isn't like brown outs in America... Germany has a great power infrastructure...

Yep there were looking at being a bit short winter 22/23 but that is no problem... This is Europe, hey France got any extra? yep we will send it over..

You are talking shit... In Europe they saw it coming and they immediately had all countries increase their reserves, they did...

Europe is not Texas, they are prepared...

Thanks for bringing that up, it showed how Governments can be the solution to problems if you don't have a bunch of idiots like that MAGA lot in charge.
