Leftist Lies that never Die

Really? What has been cut in the SSA so far?

Nevertheless, the aim of 7,000 job cuts has prompted concerns about the agency’s ability to continue to provide services, particularly benefit payments, to tens of millions of older Americans when its staff is already at a 50-year low.

See how others will be affected by cuts in staffing

"Republicans are going after your Social Security!"

This lie has been told literally countless times and it has NEVER been true, but it is like the sun coming up every morning in the East, it is constant and predictable and never actually changes. They want old people (who vote in large numbers) to think that "the Republicans" are after their Social Security checks (actually, direct deposits, but that's just a detail).

Americans, who collectively got an 'F' in high school civics, don't ever seem to understand that the funding for SS does not come out of income taxes or general revenues. It has its own funding stream, and while Congress has raided the SS piggy bank/trust fund, it MUST replace that money, so it is NEVER in jeopardy. When there is a budget crisis it never has anything to do with SS, and changes to SS make no difference.

The linked article points out that DOGE is looking at the SS Administration, seeing a lot of administrative fat, and plans to cut staffing - or in corporate language, "right size" it - and the writer predicts, falsely, that this will inevitably lead to people not getting their monthly direct deposits.

Apparently, the writer believes that the SS Administration, alone among the Federal government's various departments and agencies, is so tightly staffed and so efficient that even a microscopic downsizing will impact its work product.

It is a blatant, intentional lie.

Like many others that Democrats constantly repeat.

Is it? Can you say EVERY REPUBLICAN doesn't want to get rid of Social Security?

How many times have we seen people say "we're not destroying this thing" but they are? Too many.

You coming on here and saying it's a lie, doesn't mean it is.

They were not marked alive, since there was no report of death, they were not marked as deceased.
They are not receiving benefits and Musk continues to imply they are.
No. The media is not reporting what Musk said. You cannot blame him when he has tried to be clear that they are not getting benefits.

Show me a quote where he said they were still getting payments. I'll wait, but I am not holding my breath.

Did you look at your source? We know it's a lie before reading it!

SS benefits are all computerized. There is no paperwork to shuffle, so cuts in staffing will likely only be impactful if they are in IT jobs. The errors in the death flag not being marked tells you that no one is manually reviewing those cases. If they were someone should have caught it. DOGE did just that.

Fire a whole bunch of people and replace them with a couple of DOGE whiz kids!

the 'left' have nothing left but lies now.....~S~

And Trump spent several minutes of his speech going through each age group over 100 and how many were still active SSNs
He smirked each time at the “waste”

He never actually mentioned that there were no payments being sent to those accounts.

That is what “imply” means

There are many ways for Republicans to go after our Social Security benefits:
  • The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report showing that raising the Social Security retirement age —as House Republicans have proposed—would cut benefits.
  • Congress increased Social Security benefits by 2.5% in 2025. That cost-of-living adjustment was the lowest increase since 2021. If SS doesn't keep pace with inflation it will eventually become worthless due to inflation.
In my personal case, my monthly check was stopped because the SS administration erroneously said I owed back Medicare premiums. I didn't but it has been a nightmare dealing with them due to their understaffing and lack of technology. Will that improve once Musk fires more staffers?

That takes actual investigation and study of what is needed and what is not. It takes subject matter experts and interviews with management and employees

DOGE is indiscriminately making cuts and claim whatever they cut is “waste”
They can’t claim any realistic investigation in just six weeks
The democrats had decades to do it the quiet way and did nothing. That leaves the noisy way.

How Republicans take the American people to be suckers

We can fire as many people as we wish and there will be no impact.

We only fire those who do nothing all day, provide no service, are leeches on the taxpayers

MAGA eats it up

Nothing Trump is doing will pay down the debt.

The only thing that will pay down the debt is making the rich pay their fair share.
There isn't enough to take from that group that will even balance the budget, much less pay down the debt.

And, since it's rarely mentioned, what number is a "fair share"? Usually it just means MORE!, MORE!, MORE!.

No. He was pointing out the ridiculousness that the errors were made. That is waste.

You do know they can rehire those workers if the workload is too much, right?

And that is where decreased staffing will affect Americans. Decisions are made by computers with you getting no opportunity to provide actual facts.

Try to get someone on the phone and you get “press one for this, two for that……none of which relate to your case.
Send in an appeal and it goes in a Black Hole
Try to get an actual appointment?

Definitely make it better

I just don’t follow the lie that firing people arbitrarily without knowing the impact makes you better

When you observe that the workload is not big enough for all the people hired to do it, you pare that group back. If you pare it back too much, you have to either bring some back or hire new people to do the work, and no one has a functioning crystal ball. Case in point, Obama had government drones spend months and $5 billion developing a web site that didn't work. How long did it take and how much did it cost for a team of nerds to fix it?

What you don't do is what Congress has done for decades, form a committee staffed with the same people who set federal spending, meet for a couple of years and find a few token things to eliminate, then walk off into the sunset, congratulating yourselves that you cut waste from the budget while it grew far more than anything you "cut".

By all means do that
Examine the workload, mission and organizational structure and rightsize it

Don’t tell me that in six weeks, Musk and his wonderkins have done any detailed organizational analysis. He does not have the subject matter experts to do that.

He is just slashing people arbitrarily without concern for impact on mission
