I didn't realize Rob Reiner directed the movie. That is a problem. Not exactly a director known for accuracy and history films.
The movie should have been entitled "LBJ's homage to Kennedy". Because that is 100% what the movie was about. It was more about Kennedy and his legacy, than LBJ. Reiner clearly is very fond of JFK.
The movie presents the myth that LBJ only worked on civil rights because he thought JFK was such a great man. Simply not true. And completely left out of the movie is LBJ pushed civil rights and landmark legislation to further protect minorities than JFK did. He did it because he wholly believed the "old ways" needed to end.
The movie presents LBJ as begrudgingly going along. Not true. He was for the swift passage before and after RFK was murdered..
Anyway - the movie is a fluff piece glorifying RFK much more than LBJ.
Reiner clearly has a bromance with Kennedy.
I give it 2 out of 5 stars.
