I can remember, in the way back when machine in the 70s, when they made sweeps, the often caught up people from up north visiting relatives along the border. One was with us. His Brother was on my Maintenance Team which we were supporting birds around San Antonio at the time. The kid was all of 17 and just visiting from North
Dakota. He was born and raised there. They are all ready and willing to slap handcuffs on him and deport him right on the spot. We decided to be smart asses and say we didn't know him. The poor kid was in tears. We finally explained the situation. You see, North Dakota doesn't issue the IDs that the border legal mexican americans carry with them. The Kid didn't even have a drivers license. Once it was explained, the border agents took off the bracelets and didn't even say they were sorry and then they moved on. That kid took the next flight out back North fast and I doubt he ever returned. Natural Born Citizens can and will be caught up in this "Dragnet" as well and may very well end up on the other side of the border or in some kind of camp until it's ironed out. If they end up on the other side of the border, they are going to go through a huge amount of hassle to get home.

ICE needs to follow the law and EVERYONE needs to be made aware of what those laws are regardless of status. You want Gastapo tactics, I know a few countries you can move to that that's a way of life. But here in the United States, we should be above that. Better to heir on the righteous side than take the evil way. But you seem to believe that it's "Guilty until Proven Innocent". Seig Heil.

Indeed, an undocumented immigrant granted refugee status may lawfully remain in the United States although he entered the country absent authorization.

All persons in the United States are entitled to a presumption of innocence and due process of the law, including those undocumented.

Mayor Garcetti explaining these facts of law to residents of his city who are immigrants is perfectly appropriate and consistent with the Constitution’s requirement that all persons in the United States are entitled to know their rights.

For example, undocumented immigrants are not required to allow ICE authorities access to their homes if those authorities don’t have a search warrant.
