The Kings were founded in 1967, and they've made a Stanley Cup appearance under their now immortal captain Wayne Gretzky in the 1990s and then won in 2011 (Devils - 6 games) and 2014 (Rangers - 5 games) since becoming one of the 6 iconic expansion teams.

It's the legend of Gretzky that brought NHL fanfare to a city previously comprised mostly and only of NFL/MLB fanfare (Raiders/Rams/Dodgers). Suddenly Southern California loved ice hockey as much as beaches and babes! This forever altered the NHL many argue.

Why then don't we discuss the dioramic appeal of the LA Kings as integral to American civilization and DNA? Maybe there's something screwy with media treachery.

GRETZKY: I think it's California.
FAN: Maybe it's the City of Angels!
GRETZKY: I think it's Eastern money.
FAN: Maybe it's journalism!
GRETZKY: I think it's television.
FAN: Maybe it's sports commission dictatorship!
