The company said its Fred Meyer stores in Everett (8530 Evergreen Way) and Kent (10201 S.E. 240th St.) will shut down in mid-October. Both closures were confirmed by the union representing affected workers.

“Unfortunately, due to a steady rise in theft and a challenging regulatory environment that adds significant costs, we can no longer make these stores financially viable,” a Fred Meyer spokesperson told The Seattle Times.

The decision comes as Cincinnati-based Kroger works to shutter underperforming stores nationwide. The company, which operates 59 Fred Meyer and 55 QFC locations in Washington, announced in June that it plans to close 60 stores across the U.S. over the next 18 months.

This is the list of stores which are closing. There are at LEAST if not MORE Red state stores that are closing, including two in Texas, 4 in Virginia, as well as stores in Kentucky, Louisianna, and Indiana. The closings have NOTHING to do with red states or blue states, but MAGA Morons just have to make EVERYTHING about politics, even when it isn't

Bummer. Hubby and I always enjoyed shopping at Fred Myer in Fremont, and I can't imagine how it's gone downhill in the 10 years since we moved away. When we moved, that area was home to lots of derelict RV's that housed drug dealers. I won't be surprised to hear that they're next in line.

Well, I love WinCo

I shop mostly at Tom Thumb though. Have been since my late teens.
I also love HEB, although they are on the expensive side, so I only go there once in a blue moon for something special.

I'd shop more often at WinCo, but the closest once is 10 miles away and can't really afford the gas since my hours were cut at my job. So I just keep going to Tom Thumb, as theres once about 1/2 mile from me.
