I have seen that pejorative more than a few times on this forum. I know when it's used by some people it means that someone is a sellout, etc. I know it's possibly or most likely derived from Harriet Beecher Stowe's book entitle "Unlce Tom's Cabin", I think I read the book as a kid, but I really can't recall the details. I guess I'll read that book soon.

What I did read and am still reading, is the autobiography of the man who Ms. Stowe used as her character "Uncle Tom", if anyone is interested on getting another view of "Uncle Tom", I think that this book will be quite illuminating to say the least.

Josiah Henson, 1789-1883. Uncle Tom's Story of His Life. An Autobiography of the Rev. Josiah Henson (Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom"). From 1789 to 1876. With a Preface by Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe, and an Introductory Note by George Sturge
