Iran on Monday named Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his father ⁠Ali ⁠Khamenei as supreme leader, signaling that hardliners remain firmly in ⁠charge, as the week-old U.S.-Israeli war with Iran pushed oil above $100 a barrel.

Mojtaba, a cleric with influence inside Iran's security forces and vast business networks under his father, had been viewed as a frontrunner in the lead-up to Sunday's vote by the Assembly of Experts, a body of 88 clerics tasked with choosing Ali Khamenei's successor.

"By a decisive vote, the Assembly of Experts, ‌appointed Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the third ‌Leader of the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the Assembly said in a statement issued just after midnight Tehran time.

Regime change is just the icing on the cake, but not necessary. It would be nice, but at least we completely defanged the regime. They have no air defenses, no air force, no navy, no nuclear facility, and most of the top leadership is dead. If there is no regime change, we will be dealing with a B team who have NOTHING! It will take them many years to rebuild what theyve lost.

Thats one alternate outcome, but I would prefer the one where we beat down the regeime until the population who is being abused and murdered can take back their country. BEfore 1979 Iran was never a radical muslim country. The Mullahs hijacked the revolution... took over a poulation and its MUCH worse than what the left claims Israel did by taking over the small strip of land they are on.

Dude, they're like on their 3rd tier of leadership because the first 2 have been blown into tiny little pieces. There is nothing left of the "regime." ALL major leaders are dead. There is nothing left. As Trump said, they have no Navy, no Air Force, no anti-aircraft weapons and no leaders left. Other than that, they're doing well LOL

exactly, which is why the Democrats want to stop it now. Crying about a wider war... even though no one is taking Irans side... they have pitted everyone against them selves and running out of resources.
 
I have watched a lot of the program on ABC discussing the fall of the Shah and the insertion of Khomeini. Carter knew that Savak was torturing Iran's citizens when picked up by Savak. Iran demanded over and over the USA capture the Shah and transport him to Iran for a trial. Carter refused and Iran kept our hostages for over a year. Mike Wallace reported on this extensively. HE talked to CIA who admitted they knew yet supported the Shah. However, they felt everything about the Shah had to be taken in context including the things he did very good for Iran.

Let's check the score now. Iran's leadership is dead. IRGC commanders are dead. If they have named others to replace them, that does not "even the score." Think, Kamala Harris.

The Iranian Navy is gone. It's Air Force is literally "decimated." That is, 90% of its flight-capable aircraft are destroyed, and those that remain are utterly worthless. The U.S. and Israel OWN the Iranian skies.

Iran's economy is worse than dead. The U.S. has castrated its only cash-producing industry - the oil fields, refineries and tankers.

The majority of Iranian citizens are supportive of what the U.S. and Israel has done.

The American Left, which a week ago cautioned that "Trump better not be going after REGIME CHANGE," because that always fails," are now saying, "The bad guys have won, because Trump hasn't effected REGIME CHANGE."
