Here in DC, the most common grade is 12 and 13 - about 500,000 in total. Even at the lower grade, the 12, they start hitting $100,000 after five years, and top out at $116,000. They have bachelor‘s degrees, but work at home half-days, very commonly have no supervisory experience, and get to go on vacations without claiming annual leave.
The GS-13 tops out at $131,000. I have a friend who is a 14, and she earns $155,000. These are all people with a basic bachelor’s degree.
(Oh, and they also get “transportation stipends” to help them since they earn so little. Taxpayers also cover that.)
