There is nothing insidious about it. You kneel down in an unlighted booth and there is an obscuring screen in the divider wall you face. The shadow which is visible on the other side of the screen is that of a priest who is seated in the opposite booth. You recite ritual, confess your sins and ask for forgiveness.

The reason why the ritual of Confession has been held as an honored and desirable weekly activity by devout Catholics is the act of purging the conscience of repressed guilt feelings has a very positive, liberating effect on the psyche. In a very real sense it is to some the equivalent of a visit to a psychotherapist

Guno you should be happy that they borrow our concept & somewhat process of Teshuva, as none of the other sects ever confess. When have you ever got an apology in here for their name calling and ad hominem attacks? At least that's the one thing Catholics do right,
Admit their sins, try not to repeat those sins, try to make ammends with those they harmed in those sins.
The problem is the hail Mary's,
1) it's a sin to have an asherah and venerate a godess figure especially the Harlot.
So how can comitting a great sin save you or attone you from lesser sins?
2) The Hail Mary never works if your quarterback has a weak arm and your WR's are small, can't jump high, and are real slow down field.

Yes, there is a small light inside, and children do enter. Keep in mind that this kind of confessional, where identity is concealed, is not the only option. The Church I attend was built in recent times and the confessionals are not nearly so ornate in the picture you present. Our confessionals are a small, well lit room (versus the dimly lit confessional) and the penitent can elect to either remain behind a privacy screen or walk around the screen and speak with the priest face-to-face.

What is one person's "creepy" can be another person's cozy. It can be nice to walk out of the world and into a small, private place.
