We do what we can with the group we have. Each time we add more mods (usually 3 - 4 at a time), we may have one stick with it. We've had a few leave the forum and not come back after seeing what we deal with. Being a mod "ruins" the fun of being a regular member. Nothing we do is "good enough" for most. We get PMs from quite a few that tell us to go die somewhere, fall off a cliff, etc. We deal with people daily that think anything negative said about one party or another is the end of the world and those threads/replies need to be removed. When we move threads to proper areas, we get yelled at. When we merge duplicate threads, same thing. When we warn someone for clearly violating a rule, we get blamed for not seeing it "their" way. I could keep going ...

With that said, who on this forum, that you know of, would want to VOLUNTEER to be a mod?

Ban anyone who PMs you complaining about moderator actions or wishing death upon them. Fuck 'em.

Anonymity makes everyone say things they would never say in person, but it also attracts little bitches who come here and get all tough behind their keyboard.
But unfortunately it also attracts trolls who have no lives other than being a little shit on forums.
If they are not removed they can ruin an entire forum and make good potential members quit.
1 troll can drive dozens away a month. Which is why it is asinine to allow them to stay. If you want better numbers, you have to lose the trolls.
Things are different today than 15 years ago, forums were more popular then than now... but it was nothing for 20 to 30 new members sign up every week. You know you have a serious problem if 90% of them never last more than a day or two.

So one mod active for the past 13 hours, 2 active mods in the past over 24 hours.
First of all - YES I KNOW MODS have lives. This is not, in any way, a complaint whatsoever about current mods and their presence.
Rather... a site this size should have at least 3 times this many mods. At least.
The goal is to have a mod online 24 hours a day. Thats a goal, not always possible but that should be the goal.
You seek members who are online at night as possible modsters, to cover those areas as best you can.

This also combats "mod cliques"... when you have a small group of mods that all share the same politics... that is poison.
Or - you may have other mods that don't - but they are not very active.
