BOSTON -- Two federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously on Friday that President Donald Trump's administration must continue to fund SNAP, the nation's biggest food aid program, using contingency funds during the government shutdown.

The rulings came a day before the U.S. Department of Agriculture planned to freeze payments to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program because it said it could no longer keep funding it due to the shutdown.

The program serves about 1 in 8 Americans and is a major piece of the nation's social safety net. Word in October that it would be a Nov. 1 casualty of the shutdown sent states, food banks and SNAP recipients scrambling to figure out how to secure food. Some states said they would spend their own funds to keep versions of the program going.

Once again we see laid bare, the supposedly "Pro-Family", Republican Party is more than willing to see families go without food in order to prove how little they really care those same families needing health care. Their values are transactional, they use them when it suits them and then when no longer needed ignore them.

Since when does the judicial branch give orders to the executive branch? All Democrats have to do is pass the bill they voted to pass before they refused to pass it. If we're going to go down this road, maybe Trump can get a judge to force Democrats to pass the bill.

What next?

Trump must send $100M to Mexico because they make great recipes for Mexican food?

If the government is shut down it must be re-opened, hence the term "shut down".

Why didn't they demand Trump just open up the government and to hell with congress if they can order any financial demands they want? Why not a demand to pay military members?

If he is not in violation of the Constitution, it is up to those who are responsible for opening up the government to agree to terms.

The Schumer shutdown isn’t an emergency. It’s political

Moreover there isn’t anyone at the dept of ag getting paid to dole the funds out. No pay no work

I get such a kick out of crazy democrats that only know what their cult tells them. The democrats agreed to let ACA subsidies run out. They want to throw money at something that independent think tanks screamed would raise healthcare costs. Instead of actually trying to fix the problem. Now they want to go back on their word. Not only that but they want NPR funded and about a dozen crazy ideas funded like cooking classes for transgender in Hatai. The crazy republicans have put forward a number of proposals but democrats have rejected because causing harm to the people they supposedly care about is less important then standing for them.
If memory serves me correctly the Supreme Court ruled that lower courts can only rule for their cities, counties or states. So that means courts have overstepped their boundaries again in pretending that they can decide national decision making.

No, we see it's the "pro-family" Democrats that shut down the government and caused the whole problem. The fact the other side won't cave and bail them out of their idiocy doesn't mean the dems skip the blame for what they created. All your misdirection is just you showing how much a fool you truly are.

Dupe

I am hopeful that the repubs in congress take DJTs advice and activate the nuclear option with the filibuster. I don't really like the idea, but it will give Trump some power to replace some of these activist judges and restore some common sense to gov't.

SCOTUS has ruled that district judges can't make ruling that reach outside their jurisdictions, but IIRC, there was a caveat in that ruling that made an exception for 'class actions' and they may be using that to make an end run around the ruling. The globalists are not happy that they are being stymied in a lot of ways and they are really grasping at any straw to remain relevant.

It's a SNAP contingency fund set up by Congress specifically to be used in situations like this....
Do you agree with the judge, Schumer and the Dems are a national emergency that needs to be addressed?
