John Hinckley Jr., the man who shot Ronald Reagan, will be released today

The man who shot President Ronald Reagan is scheduled to leave a Washington mental hospital for good on Saturday, more than 35 years after the shooting. A federal judge ruled in late July that the 61-year-old John Hinckley Jr. is not a danger to himself or the public and can live full-time at his mother's home in Williamsburg, Va.

Hinckley had already been visiting Williamsburg for long stretches at a time and preparing for the full-time transition. He'll have to follow a lot of rules while in Williamsburg, but his longtime lawyer, Barry Levine, says he thinks Hinckley will be a "citizen about whom we can all be proud."

How the hell does an attempted assassin of a world leader ever see the light of day?

Why is John Hinckley being released when they won't release Mark Chapman?

He's "fixed." Why do you think we have mental hospitals? Sometimes they help the mentally ill to recover.

Sometimes the mentally ill can relapse and go off the rails at the most random moment.
True. I think that's why he's being released under such strict supervision. The lack of structure in the real world can overwhelm a fragile psyche. It's a hell of a burden to put on his elderly mother, though--she's got to be in her 80's, at least.

Good point. Must be political.

There are non-violent drug offenders who will never see the light of day, and the man who shot the President will be eating a home cooked meal tonight.

Mr. Lucy is a Psychiatrist, he can tell people that even with strict supervision things can still not go according to plan.

Also yes, he's being placed in the care of his mother, he was born in 1955, it says he has an older sister and brother, so their mother must be well into her 80s, perhaps pushing 90 years-old.

Well John Lennon was a Commie, not that he should have been murdered, but he was what now we'd call a SJW, he was a social menace with all the calls to protest and sleep-in's etc.

Yet Mark Chapman hasn't been released.

Also Lynette Fromme ex of The Manson Family, she attempted to assassinate Gerald Ford in 1975, she was released on parole in August 2009 after serving 34 years in prison.

So during Obama's Presidency, they've released two people who attempted to assassinate two Republican Presidents during their terms of office, yet Mark Chapman who assassinated a Commie nuisance musician remains incarcerated.

So it does seem that there's a political motive for these releases.

Mark Chapman has been denied parole NINE times.

"Chapman was imprisoned in 1981 and has been denied parole nine times amidst campaigns against his release."

I wonder what the guy thinks of our current leader as well as those who are wanting to take over the position when he is done.

God bless you always!!!

That is the correct word. They 'fixed' Hinkley alright. He must either now be a dupe or like in the movies, an assassin, where they are "activated" and moved into action by a phone call to kill a pre-selected target, that he was brainwashed into killing through hypnotism or duress.

Mr. Lucy doesn't ever stabilize and "cure" his patients? What is he in the profession for, then?
