Jobs and Unemployment

Who exactly, should the Fed support to create these jobs?
American manufacturing.
Okay. And American manufacturing is what exactly?
American manufacturing is any business that makes goods here in this country. Also, producing products here instead of importing what we did produce at one time. EXAMPLES: Steel, furniture, appliances, textiles, tools, toys, electronics, farm equipment, and housewares, just to name a few. The government, through unfair, unjust, and one-sided foreign trade agreements and policies, has encouraged our plants and factories to shut down in favor of supporting foreign economies around the world. The results is a poor and dependent citizenry, surviving off of government assistance programs and unemployment checks. America no longer produces what America uses and consumes. We've become consumers and not producers. We've become import dependent.

For decades, we've sacrificed our economic well-being in favor of strengthening foreign economies, and now the chickens have come home to roost. In addition, the government supports off-shore job out-sourcing, importing labor, and allows millions of illegal immigrants to live and work in this country. It's bad enough for our work force that technology, innovation, and automation has replaced workers, but we also encourage corporations to relocate outside of our borders. We've lost skills that were once passed down from generation to generation. We no longer have the jobs that once provided self-supporting opportunities that cover all education and skill levels.
I'll skip your second paragraph, its just tripe anyway.

Did you happen to notice what you called American manufacturing? You said...

"American manufacturing is any business that makes goods here in this country."

Now, you are lambasting the FED for doing business with wall street....

Do you know who ALCOA is? How about an American steel manufacturer?

U.S. Steel is an American manufacturing business. In fact, its publically traded...

U. S. Steel Common Stock Exchange Listings and Symbol

United States Steel Corporation's stock symbol is "X". The stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (Principal Exchange) and the Chicago Stock Exchange.

Hummm...so is ALCOA....

So, the FED working with Wall Street is doing exactly what it should be doing to create jobs....You do realize that in order for America to be fully employed, that means we need jobs for every American, isn't that right?

Care to tell Me where jobs come from again?
Have we ever closed steel mills? Have we ever imported steel? Do you know that many so-called American companies are partially owned by foreigners? Do you know how many American jobs were lost as a result of closed American plants and factories?

We NEED jobs that cover all education and skill levels. I have been preaching that for many years now. We once had those jobs. When our plants and factories were open and running, they provided living wage jobs that covered all education and skill levels. America was working and self-supporting. Check your history. How many textile mills are still running? How many American businesses manufacture and assemble the electronics that we buy? How many toy manufacturers are running in America? How many American made goods are on store shelves? How many "Made In U.S.A." labels can you find in Wal-Mart, Target. K-Mart, hardware stores, appliance stores, furniture stores, shoe stores, etc.? Where are the workers that once produced those goods? Our work force is surviving off of government assistance programs and unemployment checks.

Do you know that 50% of the children in this country are living at or below the poverty line? Do you know that college grads are living with parents and working at fast food joints? Do you know that wages have fallen and businesses are offering less company paid benefits? Do you know the REAL unemployment figure?

FYI - The second paragraph is the truth. Not tripe at all. Care to dispute it with facts and data? You can brush it off and call it tripe all you want, but I challenge you to dispute it.

Yes and yes.
Do you know that many so-called American companies are partially owned by foreigners?
and many foreign companies are partially owned by Americans. What's the problem?
Do you know how many American jobs were lost as a result of closed American plants and factories?
In Manufacturing, there were 176,000 jobs lost due to closing factories/plants from June 2013 to June 2014 Of course, there were 148,000 new jobs due to new plants and factories opening. There was a lot more change from businesses expanding or contracting, though. Table 3. Private sector gross job gains and losses by industry seasonally adjusted

We NEED jobs that cover all education and skill levels. I have been preaching that for many years now. We once had those jobs. When our plants and factories were open and running, they provided living wage jobs that covered all education and skill levels.
Why do you think the service industry does not?

Do you know that 50% of the children in this country are living at or below the poverty line?
No, I did not know that. Did you know your source was incorrect and the actual rate of child poverty for 2013 (latest available) was 19.9%, down from 21.8% in 2012. Child Poverty Down Income of Families with Children Up Random Samplings

Do you know that college grads are living with parents and working at fast food joints?
That's always been true.

Do you know that wages have fallen and businesses are offering less company paid benefits?
Real wages fell, but are starting to go back up. Can you show your data that benefits are not being offered as much.
Do you know the REAL unemployment figure?
Between 5.9% and 6.3% at 95% confidence (not seasonally adjusted) Adjusting for seasonal factors, it's between 5.5% and 5.9% (95% confidence, not seasonally adjusted)

Please check plant and factory closing from 1960 thru 2014. And service jobs alone can NOT support our growing work force. There was an article posted here a day or two ago that stated that 50% of the children live at or below the poverty line. Yes, real wages have fallen. Yes, employers are offering less company paid benefits. In addition, the actual unemployment numbers were posted here a day or two ago also. Please check the forum and you'll see the articles posted this week concerning child poverty and real unemployment. Thanks.

Why? Why are those dates relevent?
And service jobs alone can NOT support our growing work force.
Who said service jobs alone? Manufacturing has not disappeared.
There was an article posted here a day or two ago that stated that 50% of the children live at or below the poverty line.
And it was wrong...I gave you the Census data.
I found a thread you started: Child Poverty US Message Board - Political Discussion Forum that gives the same 14.7 million number as Census. So why are you saying that's 50% and Census saying it's 19.9%?

Yes, real wages have fallen.
But have started to go back up again.

Yes, employers are offering less company paid benefits.
And your evidence is?

In addition, the actual unemployment numbers were posted here a day or two ago also. .
I was in those threads of people making up crap about "real unemployment." If you looked, you would see that "real unemployment" meant redefining unemployed (often to include calling people who had jobs unemployed) in ways that no one has ever really used before. Which makes it a bit odd to call it "real."

Please check the forum and you'll see the articles posted this week concerning child poverty and real unemployment. Thanks.

imagine 30 million new jobs tomorrow just by eliminating the liberal corporate tax( highest in world) that has drive 30 million jobs off shore.

So now you change the argument from what is the FED doing helping businesses when we need jobs to have we never closed a business in this country.....

Either pick a particular issue, or don't, but don't expect people to jump through your hoops.

Jobs. These are the things that make America strong.

The middle class gets stronger ONLY if we have jobs.

Business is where the jobs are found.

Businesses succeed ONLY in a climate that encourages growth, or they fail in a climate of government totalitarianism.

calling people who had jobs unemployed) in ways that no one has ever really used before. Which makes it a bit odd to call it "real."

dear, if a Ph.d has a job 10 hours a week flipping burgers he is , in effect, unemployed. If all of the sudden you have millions of these people you need to be aware of the reality of it to understand why it is happening and to correct it.

Simple enough for you?

Well, that is why "Part Time for Economic Reasons" is a classification that is looked at and included in the U-6 measure of underutilization. Education and experience etc are too subjective to be useful, while hours worked is objective enough to have meaning.

However, while important, you cannot call these people unemployed. If you did, that would create some odd comparisons....
Alice and Brenda both work at the same job. Alice is in high school and works only 10 hours/week for minimum wage. Brenda is out of high school and wants a full time job but could only get hired at 30 hours/week at $10/hour.

As it stands, BLS would say that Alice and Brenda are both employed, but Brenda is underutilized because she is part time for economic reasons.

Do you really think it would make sense to say that Alice is Employed, but Brenda....even though she works more hours for more pay....is Unemployed.
That is so subjective as to be useless.

dear, the entire idea is to track changes over time with all 6 measures of unemployment. U6 is extremely useful because it is broadest measure. Its consistency relative to U3 indicates how useful it is and how it is directly related to the other measures which all more together and in the same direction.

The Federal Reserve and Shared Prosperity
Why Working Families Need a Fed that Works for Them

Full employment, shared prosperity, and the Federal Reserve
Full employment is the bedrock of shared prosperity. Working families need jobs to provide income, and full employment ensures that jobs are available for all. Full employment also creates an environment of labor scarcity in which workers can bargain for a fair share of productivity gains, making full employment essential for decent wages. A major factor behind the wage stagnation of the past 30 years is that the U.S. economy has been far from full employment for most of this time.

Full employment is also relevant for union bargaining power, and unions are unlikely to achieve their principal institutional objectives—organizing and bargaining—without full employment. Consequently, full employment should be a major concern of unions for reasons of both social solidarity and institutional interest.

The above article makes for an interesting read, and explains the need for the Federal Reserve to work for ALL Americans, and not just Wall Street and Corporate America. I would suggest and recommend that you read the entire article. It's well written and contains a view of the need for full employment of our work force.

The Fed is the most successful criminal enterprise in the history of man. It has stolen trillions from the American people and it should be abolished
