Japan elects first-ever female prime minister...and she's based AF

Never been, but I’ve always heard that the Japanese are exceptionally hospitable to tourists
Japanese people are very hospitable and polite to a fault. They have dealt with over population for my entire life. Currently, Tokyo alone has over 37 million residents--making the population of that one city nearly that of the entire state of CA and the largest city by population in the world.

You're thinking of urban population density, not some fictional "overpopulation."

Yup, large parts of Japan are rural and sparsely populated, especially in the colder north.
It's been 55 years since I was there so it has very possibly changed, but I rode a motorcycle across Honshu south-north from Hiroshima and the majority of the ride was through sparsely populated forests and mountains to small villages on the northern shore. Hiroshima is on the southern end, but because of curvature of the island the coasts are N and S. in the south.

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize that around 70% of Japan is forest/mountain. Folks see pictures of Shibuya crossing at rush hour and think the whole country is like that, all the time.

Exceptionally polite, always and forever no matter what, but there have always been places that are off limits. Many restaraunts, bars, shops, hostels, venues, act are labeled "NO vacancy" and such but not really.

This sign says no vacancy but below in Japanese says "if you can read this please come in".

There are also ,many places labeled "no tourists" or even "no westerners".

I think that’s pretty clever, actually

It isn't true, though. Crepitus is a low-IQ hillbilly who's never been anywhere, and is thus very susceptible to internet lore and urban legends.

I've actually been to Japan three times, twice with people fluent in the language, and I can say I've never heard of this.

She a Japan Firster? A Make Japan Great Again type?

Good for her. How many countries are left that put their own people last, and whose children are taught by the education establishment to be ashamed of being citizens of that country?

The U.S. is slowly getting away from that, starting with government that serves American citizens.

I lived there for years. My wife lived there for almost two decades.

The Japanese tolerate foreigners and they are culturally and superficially polite to any stranger which gives the impression of hospitality.

In fact, there are many places in Japan where foreigners are discouraged to go and live.

Japan has two large ethnic minorities, Koreans and Chinese, who were brought to Japan decades ago as slave labor and never returned.

They aren’t allowed to become Japanese citizens without adopting Japanese names and cannot attend Japanese universities.

Tell that to China … they’re still pretty raw about Nanjing.
That's them, not us.

You can tell them. I've no need to convince China of anything, and if I had the power, I'd convince them to free Hong Kong.

Well, no.

She's one of these Shinzo Abe types, who don't think Japan did anything bad during WWII.

I don't think this is healthy for Japan at all.
