Iran is certainly on its way toward having a banner year for executions.

The family of Saeed Abedini, an American pastor jailed in an Iranian prison, has expressed alarm over the state of his physical and emotional condition after he witnessed brutal events in prison.

"Saeed was quite shaken as he had to witness 6 fellow prisoners being beaten and taken to be executed (hanged) that day. It was a hard and dark day having witnessed that and seeing life being taken. The prison visit was also very hard as the families of those who were executed were crying and wailing," his wife Naghmeh recounted her last visit with her husband, who has been in jail for nearly two and a half years.

Naghmeh has been appealing for government support in the case of her husband, as his physical and emotional condition deteriorates with the abuse he continues to witness in the Iranian prison. Naghmeh said that her husband is also suffering from internal injuries due to prison beatings.

Recently, Naghmeh, together with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) met with US Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom David Sapertsein, to discuss Iran's refusal to allow Pastor Saeed to have medical treatment. They also reiterated the family's appeal to bring him home as soon as possible.

August 2012) Since 2002, the United States has had the highest incarceration rate in the world. Although prison populations are increasing in some parts of the world, the natural rate of incarceration for countries comparable to the United States tends to stay around 100 prisoners per 100,000 population. The U.S. rate is 500 prisoners per 100,000 residents, or about 1.6 million prisoners in 2010, according to the latest available data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).1

The solution is to have stricter gun laws. Lord knows if criminals don't have guns they won't commit crimes.

Really? Can criminals use legal ways to get guns?

No. That wouldn't be fair.

It is amazing how when executions are spoken about in Iran, others have to drag in the U.S. Moreover, the U.S. doesn't imprison and execute people for being Gay, for being adulterers, for committing sodomy, for their religious beliefs, etc. Even minors are exrecuted in Iran. If a poster can't restrain himself or herself from dragging in the U.S., I have a great idea. Commit a crime in Iran and go to prison. If you are lucky enough to get out, commit a crime here and go to prison. Then compare the two situations for us.

I think any decent person can sympathize with this American pastor imprisoned in the Iranian prison when he sees what is going on plus his suffering from medical neglect himself.

Even muslims would prefer the US prisons. Torture and unbelievable abuse are still far too common place in middle east prisons. Midnight express was just a hint of what goes on. Prisons in Iraq under saddam and in syria were notorious. I witnessed things that should never be seen outside of a horror movie.

Israeli prison is the worst in the Middle East if you are a person of arab descent. Torture, beatings, and starvation are common features of Israeli prison life. .....
