Trump believed he had declassified them, but the DOJ maintained they required further review and redactions before release. Three years later, the DOJ still hasn't released them. Knowing that Trump felt entitled to retain a copy, they suspected he and his associates might have done so. The Democrats needed a pretext to reclaim the binders.

That's because Obamas documents were always in national archives custody. Trump had taken documents onto his own property then lied about what he had taken, and refused to return them when asked.

In August of 2021 Gary Stern, the general counsel for the archives, was meeting at the White House with Biden officials. The case wasn’t sent to the DOJ until February of 2022. Why would he be meeting with them before even referring it as a criminal matter?

In a more shocking development, Biden’s Chief of Staff Ron Klain, was meeting with the archives and constructing a case. Why would Biden’s White House be working on a case against his opponent before anything has even been sent to the DOJ?

A bit skeptical re this story. I don't think Trump had any information like that or the FBI would have taken it, with his permission, when they went through the boxes at Mar-a-lago weeks before the raid. And the DOJ has no authority to override anything the President wants to declassify.

Do I think the DOJ/Biden administration corrupt enough to falsify what they took from Mar-a-lago and blatantly frame Trump. I'm pretty sure they are and would and are doing their damndest to do just that. But he's pretty savvy and may have put some protections in place for himself too.

I don't know if we will ever know the whole story.
