The main problem is that it’s difficult to pay workers decent wages — Charney used to boast that his sewers were paid $12 an hour on average — and still make money while selling pricey $30 T-shirts. Complicating matters is a hotly contested retail landscape full of fast-fashion chains that make their clothes abroad and sell them for a fraction of American Apparel’s prices.

Its the cheap labor overseas, sweatshops, those people need jobs as well. If you look at G lll apparel, they pretty much have cornered the market, I mean check them out, they have all the name brands, sports brands, and big name stars like Spears, and Ivanka. There is hardly any way to compete, and soon they will probably own American Apparel. I do wish those overseas shops would start charging more, like at least what our mim wage is.
