It's The Federal Gov't's Responsibility To Get The Supplies!

Just watching President Trump's news conference and I am not sure the President gets what most of America thinks that Congress and the President should get which is that it is the Federal government solely not the state governments responsibility to provide the extraordinary levels of personal protection equipment, testing supplies and medical equipment, etc. the entirety of America will need during an epidemic or pandemic. It is one thing to expect the states to try to get these things as best they can because the nation was caught unprepared to handle a pandemic and so the Federal government cannot come through states have to be creative to find a way to help meet their citizens needs; and saying the Country was caught unprepared that isn't any individual's fault America for decades should have required "domestic" industries for these items with the manufacturers having back-up equipment and supplies so it could ramp up production to handle a pandemic hitting America. It is important that the President understand that it is the Federal government and alone the Federal government's duty to get these medical supplies the American people need.

Some of the numbers of the medical items that individual states claim they need are probably inflated and it is understandable any administrator of a health care facility is not going to only want an inventory of these things that will last a week they are going to want to have several weeks or more of inventory and unfortunately FEMA only has the inventory to meet hot spots immediate needs. Plus, the American public hears states saying they need ten thousand ventilators and then the public learns there is only five thousand patients in that state's ICUs on ventilators so the criticism of the Federal government on some issues may be overdone. It is important that the President of the United States understand that it is the Federal government's duty not the states duty to get these medical supplies that the American people across America need because if he doesn't understand this duty upon him he will not use the full force of his power given to him by the Defense Production Act. There is one needed item I think he could be taking off the table within three weeks by using the Act; this being the N95 masks the days where nurses and doctors are given one mask at the beginning of their shift and are told that will have to carry you through the entirety of your shift should be ending very soon. The President should use the Defense Production Act to go into the company 3M and copy all their blue prints for the molds, presses and materials and manufacturing procedures they use to manufacture the N95 masks and commandeer a handful of other American businesses manufacturing facilities that have the wherewithal to utilize these blue prints and procedures to produce these masks and order these other businesses to produce these masks, telling them the Federal Government will pay their costs; I am confident that in three to four weeks America would be seeing Niagara Falls production levels of these N95 masks!

This is a false premise.. Fed govt does stockpile disaster items. But it's not NEARLY enough to even consider MOVING anywhere during a national crisis.. Just the LOGISTICS of storing all that in ONE PLACE is the ANTITHESIS of "national preparedness".. Would be stupid to stockpile at just a few locations..

The states RIGHT NOW even REQUIRE "certificates of need" from hospitals for new treatment equipment.. Applies to clinics and walk in private Urgent care also.. They RESTRICT the number of MRI, CT, respirators, etc in a misguided attempt to "lower medical costs"... Will not ALLOW "excess capacity"... And THAT is problem that needs to be fixed here.. It's EXCESS CAPACITY that would bring DOWN marketplace prices for healthcare..

Great.. I'm aware of all this.. If we got hit by a couple nukes from L'il Kim Chee that might work if the National stockpile WAS NOT HIT... But the Fed govt is NOT a warehouse for the WORSE CASE NATIONAL crisis...

They have no concept of strategic distancing (multiple stockpiles in many locations). Each state is supposed to be stockpiling for its residents from thier own funding. The US stockpile is for extrreeme emergencies that no one can prepare for fully. States Like NY have reports showing what they needed and they chose to pay for pet lib projects instead of preparing for the worst..
This isn’t an “extrreeme emergency”?

It's not a matter of STOCKPILING.. It's a matter of getting installed, calibrated and WORKING also for the bigger pieces.. If you're trying to install more ventilators RIGHT NOW -- you're wasting valuable human resources...
The newer models of ventilators have self check programs. Turn them on, place in a restriction pipe hit the calibrate key and wait 30 seconds... remove the restriction pipe and its fully functional. The new ones are the size of an old Laridol suction unit and have battery backup..

Are you off your meds?

Why would it be the fed-gov's responsibility to buy ventilators or masks for Minnesota or Texas?

The fed-gov DID have a zillion N95 masks but obama used them all up and didn't replace them...every hospital, county, city, and state should have their own emergency supplies...Just like I do for my own personal use!

To put the responsibility for YOUR protection onto somebody else will get you killed. No matter if it's a ventilator or a gun!
Obama didn’t replace them? Haha so it’s all Obama’s fault? Do you think Trump could have or should have replaced them during the past 3 years that he was in charge or is Trump just immune from any responsibility?

who do you think gives the ok to ship those assets?

That's how sock puppets operate.

It's a NATIONAL pandemic. So are you also saying that if a hurricane hits Florida they shouldn't get a dime of government money or supplies?

We live in the United States of America. We are a Constitutional Republic made up of fifty states, we are not one individual country. Hillsdale College offers a great course online about our Constitution and it is free! Hillsdale College Online Courses

It will teach you what the Federal Government is allowed to do for the individual states. Maybe you should check the Tenth Amendment out first. Here's the text.
The Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States, respectively, or to the people.
###

So please show us all where all the things you believe are the responsibilities of the Federal Government or the President.

This pandemic is nationwide, as we have shut our borders. It is ridiculous to place all of the responsibility on the states to take care of these situations. Why has no one answered my question then? When a state gets destroyed by a hurricane or several tornadoes does that mean the federal government should not give them any money or help???

I take it that you are not familiar with hurricanes or similar disasters. I have lived in Florida since 1954, so I have lived through many! We "Floridians", are responsible to keep at least three or four days of food and supplies on hand, more if it is anticipated to be a particularly intense storm and we are in the target area. The state has the responsibility of having ample supplies for repairing/replacing downed power lines, washed-out roads, collapsed houses. Hundreds of polls, transformers, everything else on hand and then staged near the anticipated landfall. We have state plans to bring in hundreds of additional workers and vehicles from other parts of Florida and states. None of that involves the Federal government.

The Fed comes in days, weeks, months, even years later when the needs are known.

As it is well known, this pandemic is unknown territory. We have no experience with this sort of disaster. We've had hundreds of hurricanes, wildfires out West, tornadoes in the Midwest, earthquakes, and floods on which to hone our skills.

D-Day was a historic invasion of unprecedented size. The mistakes outnumbered the things that went right. Aside from the invasion itself, over 700 soldiers were killed off England in a PRACTICE invasion. In spite of all that, America, and our allies overcame all the mistakes, errors, and even the weather to WIN, because we refused to lose.

Because the federal government has powers that Governors do not. Rather than having 50 Governors and numerous local officials tripping over each other, the President should be taking the lead.

This applies to you too.

Well according to you, as I said, you STILL get federal money and help. I know the Constitution, and I know the laws. The federal government is responsible for inter-state issues, which is what a NATIONAL pandemic is. It is and has been spreading across state lines. I think you need to do a little research yourself. The virus has become a NATIONAL issue and not just a health issue, but one that is a threat to national security which has become very prominent by the spread on Navy ships and carriers.

Because the federal government has powers that Governors do not. Rather than having 50 Governors and numerous local officials tripping over each other, the President should be taking the lead.

As you obviously never learned, within the states, the Governor and State Government has far more powers over the state than the President. You too need education on our Constitution and specifically the Tenth Amendment.

We live in the United States of America. We are a Constitutional Republic made up of fifty states, we are not one individual country. Hillsdale College offers a great course online about our Constitution and it is free! Hillsdale College Online Courses.

So please show us all where all the things you believe are the responsibilities of the Federal Government or the President.

It's a NATIONAL pandemic. So are you also saying that if a hurricane hits Florida they shouldn't get a dime of government money or supplies?
The states are getting trillions of dimes of assistance from the federal government

so your point is unfounded

The states Trump thinks treat him how he wants to be treated are getting what they need. There, fixed that for you.

You also need to do a little research where you will find that some of the PPE equipment they are bragging about sending is actually being handed over to private individuals who sell them to the highest bidder. which includes foreign countries. They are not just going to the people that need them the most.

Well according to you, as I said, you STILL get federal money and help. I know the Constitution, and I know the laws. As I said, this is COMPLETELY unprecedented. That it is a national catastrophe does not change our Consitution. You obviously have no clue about our constitution. That Hillsdale source is great!

For example, Dr. Fauci stated that it was outrageous that some of the STATES had not imposed a shelter in place order. The president cannot order the governors to make that call and he cannot just sign an executive order and make it happen.

Here is where we stand today. We still have states who are not cooperating with the Fed. government.

Did you not read what I posted? It is an interstate problem that is having an effect on national security. Go take your own advice and learn the Constitution.

I’m way ahead of you on the PPE

the US should ban the export of PPE to foreign countries

but at the same tine we must move manufacturing back to the US because we cant force china to sell masks to America
