the Senate has more seats up for reelection this time around than Democrats, so the likelihood of keeping the Senate or even more senate seats is unlikely...Mitch knows this... and does not want to give up the filibuster for every day legislation....without it, he never would have been able to block all of the Democratic legislation as he has for the past 6 years.
