We are paying ElSalvador to hold our prisoners there. Why are we paying ElSalvador to keep them if they are ElSalvadoran?

Of course it’s tbe question. El Salvador is under no obligation to send one of its citizens to the US to satisfy our due process requirements. No matter what the US does or says to “facilitate” this man’s return (so we can check some boxes and send him back btw) El Salvador can say no and there’s no amount of whining you can do to change that.
