It's a great day! Bipartisan gun legislation has been passed. You know what this means, don't you?

A whole new round of litigation to wind its way through the courts and get slapped down. Red flag laws are unconstitutional. "Look, he's having a really bad day, you have to take away his right!" has absolutely no constitutional validity whatsoever.

Also deeply objectionable to this bill is the fact that the whole thing is really a way to scapegoat mental illness, stigmatizing mental health needs and creating a second class tier of rights for people who may have mental illness. It's just plain evil.

Senate passes first major federal gun safety legislation in decades

Cornyn has lost all support except from stupid democrats.

This is what happens when bipartisanship goes down in this country, they take both parties worst ideas as opposed to their best ideas, they present and pass their worst ideas and then they pass it, they pat themselves on their backs and then when it rolls through the courts, it gets declared unConstitutional, and something like Citizens United is born And it adds to the problem.

Would carrying around a bag of dead cats qualify?

Reality never enters these ridiculous apologetics, one can excuse anything with words, reality is a tougher task. Reality at bottom.

"I went to a series of research sites to compare deaths in Australia and the U.S. for mass shootings, which are defined as a shooting having more than five victims. Since the restrictions imposed in 1996, there have been no mass shootings in Australia. In the United States in 2020 alone there were 611 mass shootings."

"Fourteen-year-old boys are not part of a well-regulated militia. Members of wacky religious cults are not part of a well-regulated militia. Permitting unregulated citizens to have guns is destroying the security of this free state." Molly Ivins

Reality: Key Statistics

It's not fair to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of a mentally ill person. They should have the same access to AR-15's as the rest of us.
possibly the saddest comment I've seen all week,

Yes, they should. Labeling people as "mentally ill" has historically been one of the easiest ways to dehumanize and oppress them. For centuries black people were subjugated to slavery on the basis that they were an inferior kind of person that was incapable of higher levels of thinking and understanding. In other words, they allegedly were mentally ill. It was often the rationalization for people who claimed they opposed slavery--eventually they settled on saying that slavery was a lesser evil than leaving hapless negros to fend for themselves.

There's nothing scarier than black people equally armed as white people, right?

I imagine he's talking about people who live in Texas.

Yeah, specially when they shove their rifle barrels in the dirt.

Except when someone who is mentally ill gets their hands on an AR-15. Maybe the voices in their head will tell them to find the nearest Waffle House.

Thank you for proving my point. Voices in their head? You don't care about mental illness. You care about using it as a weapon to demean people and render them as defective and subhuman. You're relying on stereotypes propagated by TV and movies.

Another clueless post here since Australia isn't beset by a massive gang and drug culture and it is mostly a mono culture nation the very opposite of America.

What I've seen of it is more like a totalitarian state.
