I don't believe that your question is simple at all and I didn't evade your question as there is nothing criminal about resisting an internationally condemned and illegal occupation.

Next, as per UN Resolution # 242 and # 338, many if not most of the hostages were trespassing "Settlers" who murder, destroy and steal with impunity.

Finally, Israel's practice of selective arrest invalidates the charges against those Palestinians suspected of committing crimes.

As long as Israel's rabid, right wing Settlers openly murder, steal and destroy with the tacit approval of the Israel government and the IDF, there is nothing legitimate about locking up Palestinians for throwing rocks at Israeli tanks.
