Islamic State (Isis) has launched an attack on the Syrian border town of Kobani from Turkey for the first time, a Kurdish official and activists said.

The assault began with a suicide attack by a bomber in an armoured vehicle on the border crossing between Kobani and Turkey, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based opposition group, said.

Nawaf Khalil, a spokesman for Syria’s Kurdish Democratic Union party, said that Isis “used to attack the town from three sides” but “today, they are attacking from four sides”.

ISIS opens diplomatic consulate in Istanbul, Turkey’s President denies

Istanbul (IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed that it had opened its first diplomatic consulate in Istanbul.

Abu-Omar al-Tunisi, the head of ISIS Foreign Relations announced that ISIS is determined to open its first diplomatic consulate in Istanbul, and in a friendly country like Turkey.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan firmly denied the ISIS presence in the country, however, an official source in the government anonymously stated that Turkey is developing formal relations with ISIS following al-Tunsi’s announcement that ISIS has opened a consulate in Istanbul.

According to Turkish daily Aydinlik, the consulate will provide consular services for all who wish to join the group, send money funds, and will pay the hospital fees of all wounded militants who traveled to Turkey to receive medical treatment.

Not quite related. But while many commentators are primarily fixated on what is happening in Kobani few seem to be talking about the threat being posed by al-Nusra fighters bombarding the Shia-majority towns of Nubul and Zahra northwest of Aleppo, which stands in the way of their attempts at creating an Islamic "emirate" and is also populated by adherents to the minority branch of Islam which they despise. As with Kobani we shouldn't be surprised if the inhabitants of these two towns are massacred if al-Nusra successfully overrun them.

WOW! Turkey, a NATO member state, is on the edge of being ostracized by the other members if this is true. The President has some serious explanations to deliver.
