Well, one person described Mimi's voice as an instrument. Be that as it may, Mariah, who is the daughter of an opera singer (maybe that's how Mariah developed control of her five octave range?), is known for her singing not her instrument playing. By her own admission, though she can play the guitar and piano, she's not good at it.
