Is this really the rallying cry the Repubs want to coalesce around?

Congress didn't have to get involved.
Yup. Mentioning that fact is a good time to make a distinction between the unnecessary, out of character (for America) nature of having an opulent, gilded ballroom........and who will pay for it. In this political climate I'm not sure how many R congressmen are going to want to go on the record supporting $400M in taxpayer money to build the monstrosity. Not after it was sold to the public as being privately funded. Why the change? Are private donors backing out of their commitments due to Don's popularity being in the gutter?

Given the track record of the left trying to assassinate the president, we need better security around public events, and this is one way to achieve that.

You're assuming it would be a monstrosity, something that is not in evidence.

More likely they want to be seen as doing something about security after yet another attempt on the president's life. They don't want to be seen as advocating for the old system of putting up a tent out in the open on the White House lawn or renting out a hotel that has to be secured from scratch each time.

Actually, the "Left" isn't trying to assassinate anyone. It's a fatuous yet dangerous characterization that isn't any more accurate than claiming the Right is trying to assassinate Dem's because Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered.

Secondly, needing better security around public eventS isn't going to be achieved by making the ballroom able to withstand a bomb being dropped on its roof. Unless Dotard is going to hold all public events he appears at in it.

Americans are rightly upset about the cost of living, the price at the pump, the Iran war. I don't think they believe the prez deserves an in kind, taxpayer funded reward for dealing with an aspect of his job, security, that unfortunately comes with the territory. Tone deafness on the part of R's rarely gets so striking. I don't know how they missed it.

Congressional Republicans rally around Trump’s White House ballroom project

It is especially galling at this moment when King Charles is on a State visit. There are many trappings of the presidency that are austere, that were designed by the Founders and born of our 200+ year history that are a visual, physical, intentional contradiction to European monarchies. We don't have aristocrats who spend their time partying in gilded ballrooms and never have. The WH is not a resort, it's a place of governance. The very idea the ballroom has to exist is an anathema to the image we have of this country. Of all the problems we face as a nation getting a ballroom built is about the least important one I can imagine. Yet it occupies far too much of the prez's attention when we are involved in a economically destructive war.
Voters cannot afford to fill their gas tanks or pay their utilities, and the MAGA Party focuses on a $500MM Versailles Ballroom. Yea, they are going to get their heads handed to them in November. 86 47!

A secure ballroom is a free gift, not a waste of taxpayer money, what's the problem?

With democrats voting from rooftops we need more security.

We need more security because DEMs are voting.

If Trump would just release all the Epstein files, morons obsessed with that will stop trying to shoot him

86 indeed.

How could anyone have known that the biggest liar on the planet, when he said "other people would pay for it", would actually mean "you suckers are paying for it"????

I mean, it's not like the trillion lies before it were going to be followed by ANOTHER ******* LIE.

And what are you going to do when elected? Republican voters are more intune with your agendas now as they were sleeping for so long. The criticisms will come fast and furious. The faith dissipates after a while once you are given power as agendas towards the almighty godless party takes precedent. Unfortunately, people have little patience in changes like Trump proposed and did. That is what bothers me about the Iran thing whether people agree or do not agree with it. For domestically at this time, it is a step to the rear in a battle to lower inflation and prices.

Speaking of the lies coming from this regime, remember this?

Pentagon: First week of Iran war cost about $11B

Hegseth would have us believe that in the months following the war's first week the US military has only spent $14B. The alacrity with which they lie is disorienting.

That's not the point. The point is, having a permanent structure dedicated to state events means we can secure it from the bottom up, making it more difficult for anyone to approach the attendees.
