Nigeria is a humanitarian disaster. The Government has no control in many parts where it is virtually lawless. The violence is not one-single conflict about religion but multiple overlapping conflicts not particularly related to religion: insurgency, banditry, communal/ethnic, separatist, land-resource disputes.

Nigeria poses no political nor security risk to the US or its allies. Any involvement would simply be humanitarian, which I don’t oppose, but any military involvement would likely be very Vietnam/Afghanistan in nature… a huge sunk cost with limited realistic goals and no long term impact.
