Trump loves to bask in the reflected glory of veterans, but he has no use for them once they don't conveniently fit in with his preferred narrative.

“President Donald Trump loves military parades and quoting from the film "Patton," but when it comes to actually treating military personnel and their families with respect, he's got a mixed record.
He's insulted war heroes and their parents, lambasted generals as "dopes and babies," and blithely dismissed the symptoms of soldiers with traumatic brain injuries.
Trump also pardoned a convicted war criminal against the objections of the men and women he served with, who described him as "freaking evil."
The latest example of Trump forcing West Point cadets to come back so he could give a commencement address, despite the ongoing pandemic.
Throughout his decades in public life, Trump has epitomized the idea of hollow, performative patriotism.”
War hero? Who? About the only comment I recall him saying was that Senator John McCain wasn't a hero. Having served a career in the military, I don't find fault with that. The only military personnel I put into the category of "hero," are those that earn the Medal of Honor, whether they've earned it and survived, or earned it posthumously. All others, personal courage and sacrifice, yes. Hero...no. People these days, banter that word about way too loosely.
As for military generals, the last I checked, your precious Obama, fired 197 officers. The reason: They wouldn't agree to fire on US citizens if he ordered it. The very few whining active duty generals that complain about him are no doubt Obama appointees that agreed to his request. Also, as someone who served. Whether you are enlisted or officer, you are not allowed to publicly chastise those senior to you. If you have a complaint about your superior, you request a meeting or if the officer/enlisted is over you but much further up the chain, you meet with your immediate superior and request to meet with that individual and your immediate superior will decide if you can. If denied, you can submit a written statement, but be prepared for major blowback. Generals must speak with the next highest general in ranking and if there is no higher, then that individual requests a meeting with the Commander-in-Chief, not complain to the media. Patton and MacArthur learned the hard way to shut-the-hell-up.
Once an officer or enlisted is no longer active duty, they can ***** to the media all they like, but not while on active duty.
Any president can pardon any convicted prisoner he wishes. It's right in there in the Constitution. As for the prisoner you are referring to, there was and is conflicting information as to the facts. That said, we are in a war against an enemy that if they capture one of our troops, will cut off their head with a dull knife and otherwise mutilate the corpse. So, as far as I'm concerned, the guy could go out there and kill as many as he wishes in any way he wishes. Every time Trump talks about pulling troops out of there, a combination of Democrat and Republican politicians keep advising otherwise.
Your last point...coronavirus, coronavirus, coronavirus. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about it. I did a check as to how many people are cited as being infected here, versus the overall population in our area.....the outcome... .053%. That's not even a half of a percent. Not even a tenth of a percent. It's five one-hundredths of a percent. As we've got bear in the area we stand a better chance of being bitten by a bear in town than catching the coronavirus....yet for some strange reason I don't see people running around screaming that we must have bear spray on our hips.
Viruses come and go and people die from them.
