The Democratic Party that tried to prevent the emancipation proclamation didn't exist. They were actually Republicans and were Democrats In Name Only, or DINOsaurs. A new Democrat party was created in 1992 when William Jefferson Clinton was elected. The old Democrats became Republicans according to the left.

Jefferson and Madison founded the Republican Party in 1793 to stand for very very limited govt. Modern Democrats have no place in America since their ideas about always growing govt and limiting freedom are far more soviet than American.
