Even in the time when the Crimea was a part of Ukraine, the length of the Russian part of the Black Sea coast was more than 400 km/250 miles and there has always been a Russian naval base Novorossiysk on this coast.

Naval bases are important, but they are definitely not the only (or even the most important) reason.

Not always. Russia regained more or less effective access to Black Sea only in 1774, after victory in the Sixth Russia-Turkish war. Yes, it took six big wars, number of smaller conflicts and more than two hundred years to return it.

Even in the time when the Crimea was a part of Ukraine, the length of the Russian part of the Black Sea coast was more than 400 km/250 miles and there has always been a Russian naval base Novorossiysk on this coast.

Novorossiysk is geographically poor base. And NATO bases in Crimea makes Black Sea pretty unaccessable for Russia.
