Musk has been volunteering his time in DOGE, Trump doesnt need to fire him. At his core Trump doesn't really fear anyone, he is pretty damn tough. He respects Musk and he understands Musks position as he has interests in China so he will not always be happy. Trump has interests in America and this is going to require the U.S deficit balancing, debt decreased, jobs returning back to America and better, more fair access for U.S conrporations aroundthe globe. Its not that complicated:

1. Navarro told Trump that tariffs could raise $600b a year to pay for some of Trump's tax cut promises, so Navarro does not want to negotiate lower tariffs, and used Tesla as a "bad" example, which pissed Musk off.

2. Musk and most people want to use reciprocal tariffs as a negotiation tool to lower tariffs so the US can export more goods, and to oppose other unfair trade practices like currency manipulation or government subsidies, or intellectual theft. Then the stock market rallies.

My best guess as to how this will unfold is that Trump will be forced to raise the top tax rate and cave on tariffs, otherwise inflation kicks in and the Fed would love to deny Trump any rate cuts to make the mid-terms a "GOP bloodbath".
