I love sleeping on the couch. That being said, the phrase "The ends justifies the means" has gotten a bad rap.

Absolutely. I think our society would collapse into utter chaos if everyone told the truth 100% of the time. "White lies" are necessary every now and then to keep peace.

If your life is being threatened then you have every right to kill somebody, so shouldn't the same work for lying? Or when it comes to protecting the life or feelings of somebody else?

People lie so often that the comparison is meaningless.
