Is it better to live in the US or in Europe?

Here's a video from an American who's lived in London for 13 years.

He makes a good argument as to why Europe is better than the US for living in.

A lot of what he says is there's a better quality of life in Europe. Also that in the US the government is NOT working for the people, but working for the rich.

I'd agree with everything he says.

Obviously for people who are born in the US and understand the US, there's a comfort about living in their home country they might not get elsewhere. But for a comparison of a British person in Britain and an American in America, maybe it's better in the UK.

And, he says, all countries have their problems. The UK still have the FPTP political system, it's not great. Better than the US's but still deeply flawed. He does not say Europe is perfect. Just better.

"Better" is totally subjective, making it a completely unhelpful measure for comparison.

Opinions are like noses---everyone has one.

Anyone care for an adult view on the differences?

It all depends on your personal circumstances. If you have a good life in the U.S. it is likely just as good or better than a reasonably well situated German, Swede, or Scot. If you life sucks in the U.S. you would probably be better off in Europe, where they have a generous "safety net" to keep you safe and content.

Most of these "discussions" focus on healthcare. There is nothing special about my life, and at 76 y.o., I have never had significant medical bills that were not tolerable or covered by one form of insurance or another. To hear/read the common bullshit, significant portions of the American population are living fear of their next medical event. I know nobody who lives in such fear.

In every American city, there are wonderful, crime-free neighborhoods with excellent schools, clean and enjoyable parks, museums, theaters, and venues for bike riding, running, and other comparable activities.

Conversely, even the best European cities all have shit-hole neighborhoods and places where it is not safe to walk, day or night. And with the Muslim invasion coupled with a disastrous reproduction rate, things will get very much worse before they get better.

It is simply ignorant to claim that "life" is better or worse in one continent vs another. It is all related to one's individual circumstances.

Well there you go. Let's ignore anything unless we can quantify it.

We can quantify money.

So, the US has X GDP and Europe has X-Y GDP, so the US is "better" because we can quantify it.

Oh, but we can also quantify murders, we can quantify deaths on roads, we can quantify poverty, income inequality.

I do know people who live in fear of their next medical bill. I knew someone who moved to CHINA because they had a pre-existing condition where the healthcare costs in the US were higher per month than their pay check.

But if you read what I wrote, he did say nowhere was perfect.

And yes, it's relative to individual circumstances. Of course it is. Go to North Korea, which is better for Kim Jong Un? North Korea or the US? Well, of course it's North Korea. But it would be silly to suggest North Korea is better.

He's an idiot.

Pretty much. If you can't quantify it, it isn't real

But you didn't. You didn't quantify or qualify anything. You just said which is better. The only logical answer with that question is "it depends on your circumstance and what is important to you." IOW Opinion.

No thanks. Too crowded, bad food, bad healthcare and they all talk funny.

Too crowded?

Bad food?

I went to London recently, and on my way to the hotel, I passed an Indian restaurant, and American restaurant, an Italian restaurant, a cafe with cakes, an eastern European/Mediterranean restaurant, and that was in the first 100 meters.

Bad healthcare?

You can get great healthcare, if you're willing to pay for it. But for most people, it's better than in the US.

Talk funny? Yeah, everyone talks funny.

Yeah, you can get that in any burg in the US--most are on any street corner.

Not according to healthcare pros that I've spoken to personally from other countries that have immigrated to the US because of Europe's lesser healthcare.
Talk funny? Yeah, everyone talks funny.
Yep from one state to another. Bottom line is it depends on your circumstance and opinion. Meh. Different strokes. IDGAF where others choose to live---preferably any place that I don't. No skin off of my back.

Can we quantify you?

No?

Then I guess you're just a fart in the wind.
Sure you can. You can quantify anything that exists.

You really are not smart.

The only European countries I've visited are Spain and Portugal. The one thing I noticed was a much slower pace of life. People would just hang in public squares for hours just chit chatting or dancing to impromptu music.

Yeah, southern Europe is more relaxed.

In Spain they'll work at 8am, have a few coffee breaks before finishing work at 2pm, then home for lunch and siesta, then back at work for a few hours in the evening.

It's less like that in northern countries where it's colder. But still not like northern cities in the US where people are constantly working.

And if you watch the video, you'll see that in Europe if they think something might be bad in food, they ban it. In the US it has to be proven to be bad for them to even think about it.

Many American foods are banned in other countries because they contain harmful things. But in the US it's about the company making money, elsewhere it's about people and their lives.

My ancestors left Europe 150 years ago for a reason. I trust their good judgment.
You think Europe 150 years ago is the same as today?

Trust me, were they to live in Europe today, and have a choice of going to the US 150 years ago, they'd stay in Europe.

You really are not smart.

Go on then, prove you're smart.

Quantify three different people's creativity.

I'll make it easy for you, because you're so smart, you can, if you choose, try and quantify these three artists and their paintings.
