This is how ever death is recorded. Almost nobody dies from the flu, it is always due to an underlying condition, yet they are still recorded as flu deaths because had they not gotten the flu those underlying conditions would not have killed them.
My step father died of heart failure technically...part II of his DC shows that the heart failure was caused by cancer in 2/3 of his major organs.
There is nothing different about the way COVID deaths are counted than any other death.

I have COPD, other than that I am a healthy guy that has been a runner since I was in the 6th grade. If I got COVID and died because of my COPD, it would be listed as a COVID death as it should be since I would not have died had I not gotten COVID.
My son is a Type-1 diabetic, if he gets COVID he is as risk of going into life threatening DKA. If he died from that it would be valid to blame it on COVID since COVID caused the DKA.
This is really not complicated.
