Assad has expelled Iranian commander. Also Ambassadors from UAE and other Arab nations are arriving in Damascus for the first time in years. Perhaps Assad is breaking ties with Tehran and wishes to end the border conflict with Israel. Russia has much influence with him perhaps they have something to do with it.
