The difference is that Republicans want to defund law enforcement because they object to them investigating their criminality and Democrats argument for defunding the police was about reallocating resources so Law enforcement wasn't dealing with things like 911 calls by family members who needed help with loved ones in the midst of mental health crisis. It's not that we don't want anyone dealing with mental health emergencies, we just think those 911 calls should go to Healthcare professionals who are going help your loved ones, rather than shoot at them.

Republicans talk about the doj and fbi, even the IRS is set to become police. They don't want to refund them, they want them gutted because they are becoming political weapons. They also want them partially refunded because they are spending billions and billions needlessly.

Democrats want the actual police refunded, shrunk and weakened which is the worst thing we could do to police.

What the two parties want are not the same things at all and both have very different goals. Republicans want federal law enforcement to be better, Democrats want crime to be better.
