Ethan Dickerson, 19, faces preliminary charges of hate crime, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful restraint, and home invasion.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon in Decatur, about 180 miles south of Chicago, WICS-TV reported.

According to a sworn affidavit, police were called to a home on Delray Court after a report of a broken window and a potential break-in.

When an officer arrived at the scene, the door was locked. After identifying himself, the officer said he could hear somebody screaming for help inside.

The officer broke down the door to go into the house, and then found the victim on the kitchen floor.

He had multiple lacerations to his head and a “significant” amount of blood. The officer also saw the teen, who was also covered in blood.

Do those on the right think this is a hate crime or just a regular old attempted murder?

Maybe the neighbor made unwanted advances towards the young man.....If so, good beating.

If not....

We need more vigilante justice in this nation.
By the way, will you report on this weekends killings in Baltimore, St Louis, Chicago and NYC?

How is any old attempted murder NOT a hate crime?

How would it be any less hateful if the criminal did this because the victim had a few dollars they wanted to steal or revenge for something trivial like being bumped into on the side walk?

I'd really have to hear the testimony here before rendering judgment. If the supposed victim was trying to convert Ethan and the perp was just defending his manhood, I think you'd have to find him innocent.

People have a right to defend their manhoods IMHO

Meh... the story doesn't include one word by the teen.
All we have is what the man said. People lie. All the time.
I find it very difficult to believe some kid would break into a neighbors house, having no outside relationship with him - or no history of problems... and try to beat him to death.
And then there is the kid. Look at him. He looks like he weighs 80 lbs soaking wet. The victim is only 60 years old. I find it hard to believe he would just sit there while this kid had to climb through the window, orient himself and start attacking and the man did nothing.
Unless the kid was already familiar with this man's home, the man knew him, and therefore was trying to figure out what and why this kid he knew was doing breaking into his house.

There is more to this story - and as usual, all the media wants to tell is a version they like.

What is vigilante Justice and who decides who should receive it. Watch CNN, they will keep you up to speed on it.
By definition isnt it "justice" enacted by a mob outside the judicial system? By that definition the mob decides which is why it's a horrible way to mete out justice.

Odd story. I imagine if he tried to murder him he also hated him.

Question for you, does the teen get less time if it's just plain old attempted murder and more time if they prove a hate crime? IMO in both instances the teen is unfit for society.
