I think everyone here knows how much I despise Trump.
But on this point, he's kind of right. Ukraine will have to accept that peace will come at the cost of some territory. They won't dislodge the Russians from the land they currently hold, and they lack the manpower to continue the fight indefinitely.
Of course, it's bad optics for Trump to meet with Putin and not include Zelenskyy.
The ideal peace would be for the following to happen.
Russia gets Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea. Their populations are mostly Russian and they never should have been part of Ukraine to start with.
Russia returns Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
Russia pays reparations to Ukraine over a ten-year period.
Ukraine is allowed to join NATO and the EU, with (non-American) peacekeepers taking up position in the country.
Neither side will be entirely happy, but it's reasonable and fair.
Deflecting and lying ain't teaching.
