I find these red/blue maps misleading because the population in each contained segment is unequal. For example, California looks somewhat 50/50 between red and blue. But LA County has a larger population than 40 other individual states. (Which I see good reason why that red half of California feels it lacks representation and wishes to divide into a separate state.)
