Chicago Gun Violence So High It Is Skewing National Murder Figures - Breitbart

The death toll from Chicago gun violence is so high that it is skewing national murder figures, making violence appear more ubiquitous than it actually is.
Breitbart News reported that the death toll in Chicago had already passed 730 for the year by December 6. And the Chicago Tribune reports that the number of murders in Chicago reached 755 by December 21. When these numbers are added to the murder figures of other cities, they raise the overall perception of violence considerably ā€” particularly when it comes to the number of homicides.

According to The Washington Post, the Brennan Center of Justice expects ā€œthe homicide rate for the countryā€™s 30 biggest citiesā€¦ to go up by 14 percent this year.ā€ But that increase does not tell the whole story; namely, that ā€œthe killings in Chicago account for an astounding 43.7 percent of this overall increase in [homicides].ā€

The problem in chicago is not law abiding people carrying guns...it is the light sentences handed out to repeat gun offenders...that's right...repeat gun offenders...felons caught with illegal guns in and out of jail, often on bail, then with sentences of less than 2 years.........and they they shoot people and actually hit and kill them......

Chicago Top Cop Courageously Admits Gun Control Fails To Stop Crime - The Truth About Guns

However, clear-thinking and logical donā€™t describe public positions of the Chicago Democrat machine.

ABC7 Chicago reported on Eddie Johnsonā€™s comments:

At a press conference Monday afternoon, the Chicago Police Superintendent called the violence ā€œunacceptableā€ and said 90 percent of those killed have gang ties, criminal histories or were on the departmentā€™s strategic subject list.

Police said most of the people shot, not all, were targeted.

ā€œThey were targeted knowing fully well that individuals would be at homes of family and friends celebrating the holiday,ā€ Johnson said.

He went on to call ā€œfor tougher penalties for repeat gun offenders.ā€

Chicago politicians donā€™t want tougher penalties for repeat gun offenders

As a guy who has spent time lobbying in the Illinois General Assembly, I can tell you first-hand that Chicagoland Democrats donā€™t want enhanced penalties for repeat gun offenders. These Democrats see sentencing enhancements as merely putting more ā€œyoung black menā€ into prison.

Chicagoā€™s Democrat Stateā€™s Attorneyā€™s office does not even aggressively prosecute armed bad guys and gals using existing laws.

Examples:

  • Police nabbed three young males red-handed after a drive-by shooting. Two people gained fresh, unwanted piercings. Cops caught them after a short pursuit. Five-oh recover the three guns used in the crime. The Stateā€™s Attorney charges them with a class 4 felony ā€“ punishable by a mere one to three years in prison upon conviction.

  • A woman with a felony past unlawfully carries and unlawfully possessed handgun into a bar without a carry license. She becomes intoxicated, comes out, and pops off rounds at someone who has angered her. A video of her attempted murder of others made its way to YouTube. Police catch up to her, arrest her, and the SAā€™s office charges her with a misdemeanor.

Cook Countā€™y judges not following bail recommendations

(Sun-Times) ā€“ Cook County judges routinely make bail decisions for crime suspects contrary to what the judgesā€™ new risk-assessment system calls for, according to a review of more than 1,500 cases this year obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

A review by the Cook County sheriffā€™s office showed judgesā€™ bail decisions differed from the guidelines about 85 percent of the time. The review tracked cases in 30 weekday sessions ā€” between Feb. 10 and March 29 ā€” in Central Bond Court at the main Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 26th and California.
