You should, as the IRS makes mistakes.
In 2020 we sent a check along with our return. The check was cashed within 2 weeks. 6 months later they said we did not file a 2020 return. And since they said we did not file a 2020 return that looked back and decided we had not filed in 2013 or 2015. Thus we got a bill for more than 30 grand, 13 from 2020 and the rest from the other two.
We spent close to 5 grand on a tax lawyer and am still fighting it. In order to keep our wages from being garnished we had to agree to a payment plan and now have been paying more than 400 bucks a month for going on 1.5 years and counting.
I am still waiting on the IRS to look at what we sent them, still having them take more than 400 bucks out of our bank account every month. Do you think we will ever see a dime of that money back?
