I knew a white girl who applied to several very good colleges and was rejected. (She was a B- student.) She then applied to a Tier 1 university - on the level of Duke - and checked the “black box” because one of her great-grandfathers was black. Boom! In like Flynn!

When she arrived for freshmen orientation, she was whisked to the Black Student Resources desk (oddly, nobody questioned her relatively light skin), where they showed all the free help available to her. They knew that a B- student, admitted because she was a female black, would struggle to keep up with the students who qualified based on their academics.

So, this quite average girl, rejected from Tier 2 colleges when she presented as white, got into a Tier 1 by presenting as black, barely kept up, but graduated with a degree from that fine school.

But your definition of equity is wrong. It means equal outcomes, regardless of the effort, work ethic, intelligence, wise choices, etc., made by people. (It does not mean “helping people” - as we already help people with food stamps, Medicaid, housing subsidies, Pell Grants, etc.)

IOW, in your world, a black girl who has two baby daddies by age 20 and no high school diploma should be “equitized” to a smart, mature, bright studious white kid who won an academic scholarship, worked evenings to help pay for the rest of college, and eventually embarks on a well-paying career.

You think if the more responsible and capable kid earns his way to buying his own home, then by golly, the black kid who did nothing to earn it should get one too. Otherwise……waaacist!
