I wonder how many wind turbines and solar panels are working under 40 inches of snow. Yeah, you heard right, 3ft 4 inches of snow.

MSN If the blades of the windmills are frozen or caked with snow, and the solar panels cant see the light of day under all that snow, how many people are without power, thanks to the Joe Biden admin's push for renewable(non working) energy in this snowmaggedon? Can your EV handle all that cold and wind, while you not only have your car on, but the heater, lights and wipers all using up that precious electricity, that is now limiting your range, but hope you dont end up in a snowbank where you are stuck for hours. Might see some of that when the bitter cold(Not globull warming) is over.....
Most all of them since both are generally higher than 4 ft.

Who needs energy in a sub zero blizzard?

What kind of daylight can a solar panel expect to get when the place just had 40 inches of snow anyway?
In deep winter here we only get 6 hours of low impact daylight with the lower sun angle and had 7ft for our season total of snow. No one was cleaning off the panels in the solar farms here. How effective are they in those conditions?

I have a friend who is an executive in was of the largest power companies in the US.

Like me he is an Engineer and knows that solar and wind are crappy technologies for commercial power production.

But yet his company are building a large number of solar arrays and wind farms.

I asked him why is that so. Is he the only smart Engineer in the company? Is everybody else dumbasses that forgot what they learned in Engineering school? Why is the company doing crap that they know doesn't work?

He said there are three main reason, none of them having to do with feasible technology.

1. His company borrows capital and operating funds from European Banks that give better rates and conditions than American Banks. Since these operate in the EU they are required to only lend to companies that can demonstrate a "Green" priority.

2. They get government subsidies. Lots of subsides from both the Feds and States. That greatly reduces the cost. In other words we idiot taxpayers are paying a good portion of the things, not the companies themselves.

3. They can pass along the cost to the consumers. Most states allow rate hikes to cover putting in these stupid things.

In other words it doesn't cost them much of anything and they can claim that they are "moving towards being carbon neutral", even if it is a waste of money.

Do you know what a "grid" is? ... or "interconnect"? ... as those wind turbines spin down ... natural gas power stations all over Eastern North America are firing up ... you do know that solar panels don't work at night, don't you? ... so ... you know ... engineer types have figured this all out already and solutions in place ...

It's an economic choice ... I wouldn't put solar panels on a Pennsylvania coal seam ... and I'd'a given wind turbines in Buffalo a little more thought ... can't they just burn NYC's downwinders trash? ...

you are aware they have huge machines that clean the solar panels....so they work just fine...unlike your damn brain

Exactly. Even if you clear the snow off them, with the short days, low sun angle, and generally overcast and very cloudy weather in winter and around snow storms, what kind of solar power does anyone expect to get especially considering that weeks might go by without a truly sunny, clear day?

You know this company hold monopoly power over their customers ... right? ...

If tax-payers approve the subsidies, then subsidies aren't the problem ... "commercial power production" is ... whether you like it or not, Seattle is subsidizing a solar farm where it "rains every day all day long" ... people in Seattle want to pay for this ... why shouldn't this engineer friend of yours capitalize? ...

Solar in San Diego ... what's not to love? ...

"...If you are in the Mid-Atlantic or other regions where heavy snowfalls of two feet or more are common, cleaning snow off your panels is rarely a good idea. If you have just a dusting, photons can still penetrate down to the panels and continue producing electricity. If you get a substantial amount of snow, it’s rare for snow to cover solar arrays long before it melts...."

The subsidies are part of the problem.

The company gets away with putting in shitty power producing equipment because the idiot politicians approve the filthy ass subsidies. Morons vote for the idiots that give away the subsidies.

The free market should determine the technology, not some ill conceived Environmental Wacko agenda.

I don't blame the companies from taking the money. However, we just need to recognize that it is moronic and a waste. Maybe the next time we go to the polls we don't elect shitheads to waste our money.
