I am not a legal expert, but I expect that if I buy a song on CD or online, I should be able to play that song in situations where other can hear it if I'm not charging admission to the event. If you want to have the song downloaded on your phone so you can play it for free, without having any windows on your phone open, and not have any advertisements, and be able to jump from song to song easier, you do what I said earlier.
